The story starts with single father Tony Micelli (Tony Danza) and his young daughter Samantha (Alyssa Milano). Micelli, a former baseball player decides to leave their Brooklyn home for a chance at a better life in Connecticut. Micelli lands a job as a live-in housekeeper for the very wealthy businesswoman Angela Bower (Judith Light) and her young son (Danny Pintauro). Katherine Helmond (Soap and others) starred as Angela’s mother.
The show was nominated for over 40 awards, including 10 Primetime Emmy Awards and 5 Golden Globe Awards. The show would go on to win one of each of those nominations. The show consistently ranked in the top 10 of the ratings.
The show lasted 8 seasons (196 episodes), coming to an end in 1992.
