Released at the end of 1989, the film was based on the 1981 novel written by Warren Adler of the same name.

Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner have it all, great careers, beautiful cars, amazing home and all the material possessions one would desire in life. However, their marriage begins to fall apart and the mother-of-all-battles begins in their bitter divorce.

In both the novel and the film, the married couple’s family name is Rose, and the title is an allusion to the battles between the warring Houses of York and Lancaster who were contending for the throne during the Late Middle Ages.

The movie was budgeted at a little over 26 million dollars and grossed over 160 million at the box office.
