1979’s “The Wanderers” is proof of that.
Set in the Bronx in 1963, the film follows a gang of Italian-American teenagers known as the Wanderers and their ongoing power struggles with rival gangs such as the Baldies and the Wongs.
The cast includes a very young Ken Wahl, Karen Allen (after Animal House pre-Indiana Jones), John Friedrich and 70s regular character actor, Val Avery.
The movie was released in the summer of ’79, the movie did over 23 million dollars at the box office.
