The Cover Girls – Show Me (1986)
“Show Me” by The Cover Girls is just one of the many great songs you’d hear on The Beat Chicago. Yes, we play Freestyle because it’s part of our culture and heritage here in Chi-Town.
There’s enough stations playing rock n’ roll classics and the same 80’s songs from Bon Jovi, Journey, John Cougar, Elton John all day long and that’s all cool but, when you want something completely different? When you want everything from Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Spinners to Stevie B, C+C Music Factory and more of the music that keeps you movin? We’re it.
See, we’re all about the classics too…. Classic R&B and dance of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, freestyle and more. For us, it’s not about how old a song is, it’s about how good it is and this is as good as it gets.
It’s 1986, near the end of the year and this song comes blaring out of the mixes and forward-thinking radio stations in Chicago, NYC, Miami, Phoenix, Houston and anywhere else that appreciated Freestyle.
“Show Me” first charted on the US Hot Dance Club Play chart where it peaked at #4 in March 1987, months after its 12 inch single release.
Following the song’s successful run on the dance chart, it was then released to radio, where it reached #44 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May 1987, remaining in the Hot 100 for 18 weeks.
The girls would go on to other hits including “Because Of You”, “Funk Boutique”, “All That Glitters” and more including their 1992 cover of Rose Royce’s 1977 classic “Wishing On A Star” from their “In Full Bloom” album.
