The Cannonball Run II (1984)
We always say the best music, movies and TV shows have all been made, we’re here to help you remember them all.
1984’s “The Canonball Run II” is proof of that.
The sequel to the 160 million dollars plus box office smash returned in 1984, the year of Miami Vice with an all-star cast for another race across the country.
Like the first Cannonball Run, there are a ton of stars including the return of Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., an appearance by the Chairman of The Board, Frank Sinatra, a hilarious pairing of Richard Kiel (Jaws in James Bond movies) and a very unknown to Western audiences soon-to-be megastar, Jackie Chan, the final appearance of Jim Nabors before his death, Jamie Farr, Abe Vigoda, Henry Silva, Mel Tillis Fred Dryer (former pro football player who’d go on to play TV’s “Hunter”), Telly Savalas, Ricardo Montalban, Catherine Bach, Susan Anton, even Cheech Marin made a small appearance along with so many others.
While not as good as the first time around, the movie was budgeted for anywhere from 18 to 22 million dollars and was less successful than the first one only bringing in around 55.5 million dollars but still leaving its mark in the history books of ensemble comedies.
