1984’s “Starman” is proof of that.
Jeff Bridges and Karen Allen star in this very underrated movie. Jeff Bridges plays an alien who came to Earth to visit at the invitation of the Voyager 2 probe. However, he is shot down by the U.S. military. He takes the form of a young Wisconsin widow’s (Allen) husband and makes her drive him to his departure point in Arizona. After an initial kidnapping of Allen, the two work together to help get him to his destination to make it back home. The journey won’t be easy as they’re being chased by distrustful government agents.
Directed by John Carpenter, the movie was budgeted at almost 25 million dollars and did over 28 million dollars at the box office. Bridges was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role. The movie inspired a short-lived TV series of the same name in 1986.
