Let’s go back to 1984 for Starman

ABOUT THE MOVIE

Released near the end of 1984, it took a while for this movie to finally get developed and released by Columbia. It was sitting around for years.

It’s a decent movie where Jeff Bridges plays an alien who came to Earth and cloned a humanoid body after finding an invitation on the gold phonograph record installed on the Voyager 2 space probe.

It’s a good movie and definitely proves why aliens won’t stop here. They know better, they come by, see what it’s all about and say “nope, this planet ain’t ready for us yet.”

Jeff Bridges was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor, making Starman the only film by John Carpenter to receive an Academy Award nomination. Bridges was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Drama and was awarded the Saturn Award for Best Actor. Karen Allen also received a nod for Best Actress from the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films.

The film itself was nominated for Best Science Fiction Film. Jack Nitzsche received a Golden Globe nomination for his score.

The movie was budgeted at a little over 24 million dollars and did over 28 million dollars at the box office that year.
