Soundstage Classics
[aiovg_video type=”youtube” youtube=”https://youtu.be/6ulQPgIEBAw”]Back in the ’70s here in Chicago, we were treated to some great programming on TV. Back in the day when we had a few channels, we never said “there’s nothing to watch” because we weren’t spoiled like we are today.
If you have 1,800 tv channels and can’t find something to watch on top of all the free content online today? You have issues.
Soundstage was something unique, it was special. It featured great bands, great artists, great musicians live for us to watch on channel 11 here in Chicago, our PBS station.
The original series aired for 13 seasons between 1974 and 1985; a new series of seasons began in 2003. Some performances have been made available on DVD.
The performances are taped on stage at the WTTW television studio in Chicago, as well as large venues throughout the city and United States.
As a kid, I couldn’t wait for it to come on. I got to see great artists like Tower Of Power, Three Dog Night, George Benson, Stan Kenton, The Meters, Gordon Lightfoot, Comedians like Martin Mull, real talents like Aretha Franklin, The Doobie Brothers, Chicago and the blues artists! WOW! Willie Dixon, Muddy Waters, Junior Wells, Pinetop Perkins – I was in heaven!
We’ve gathered as many of these great performances as we could find for you to watch here or in our app (TV SHOWS).
