There’s so many great lines in this movie, so much hilarious, crazy dialog, a soundtrack that takes you back to that time, it’s unmistakable.
With a cast of characters that is second to none, Slap Shot is one of my all time favorites.
While it was deemed a ‘b’ movie, the cast certainly didn’t deserve that label. Academy Award winning actor Paul Newman< Strother Martin, Michael Ontkean and many others who’d go on to big careers in both movies and TV.
The movie was directed by George Roy Hill and written by Nancy Dowd and
The story is about a minor league ice hockey team that resorts to violent play to gain popularity in a declining factory town.
Dowd based much of her script, as well as several of the characters, on her brother Ned’s experiences as a 1970’s minor league hockey player.
The movie did over 28 million dollars at the box office.
