The Pink Panther was directed by Blake Edwards who, along with Maurice Richlin also wrote the movie.
Peter Sellers plays inspector Jacques Clouseau as he travels to Rome to catch a notorious jewel thief known as “The Phantom” before he is able to steal a priceless diamond known as “The Pink Panther”.
The amazing cast also included David Niven, Robert Wagner, Capucine and Claudia Cardinale.
A few months after this release, Blake Edwards and Sellers would strike again with “A Shot In The Dark”, launching the ‘franchise’ of Pink Panther movies that would bring in hundreds of millions of dollars over the next 15 years.
The movie brought in almost 11 million dollars at the box office.
In 2010, the film was selected to be preserved by the Library of Congress as part of its National Film Registry, being deemed “culturally, historically, and aesthetically significant.
