Peace Pipe – B.T. Express (1975)

Peace Pipe by B.T. Express  is just one of the many great songs you’d hear on The Beat Chicago including our Great Golden Grooves programming where we feature classic R&B, soul and the funk from 10PM – 2AM.

There’s enough stations playing rock n’ roll classics and the same 80’s songs from Bon Jovi, Journey, John Cougar, Elton John all day long and that’s all cool but, when you want something completely different?  When you want everything from Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Spinners to Stevie B, C+C Music Factory and more of the music that keeps you movin?  We’re it.

See, we’re all about the classics too…. Classic R&B and dance of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, freestyle and more.  For us, it’s not about how old a song is, it’s about how good it is and this is as good as it gets.

B.T. Express stood for Brooklyn Transit Express and this group was funky! With a string of hits in the mid 70’s like “Do It (‘Til Your Satisfied”) and “Express”.

This song from 1975 was what those back yard parties were all about, pass it around. B.T. Express was about as funky as you can get, this is what the funk/dance sound of the 70’s was all about right here.

In Chicago, this was the jam heard at parties, in the clubs and on the radio at great stations like WGCI, WBMX and in the mixes. Considered a ‘house’ classic, it was more than that long before ‘house’.

For you real old schoolers, you may remember Kashif was with the band for a while until he began producing massive hits for Evelyn King (Love Come Down) and of course his solo career in the early 80’s where he’d have hits like “Lover (Turn Me On), Help Yourself To My Love and more..  Kashif passed away in 2016..
