Kenny’s career started in the club back in the disco era. As a featured mixer on Chicago’s 94.7 FM Disco DAI in 1979, he’d move to WGCI to do remixes before landing at WBMX where he and the legendary, iconic, U.S. Dance Music Hall of Fame team “The Hot Mix 5” would make history.
From there Kenny would go on to a career in law enforcement as a Cook County sheriff where he’d retire as a Lieutenant.
He and the Hot Mix 5 created Hot Mix 5 records after he produced his massive club hit “Can U Dance” featuring Fast Eddie [who’d go on to hip-house fame on DJ International]. Hot Mix 5 records would release massive club/house anthems like “You Used To Hold Me” by Hot Mix 5 member Ralphi Rosario featuring Xavier Gold. Also the hit “In-Ten-Si-T” by Mickey Mixin’ Oliver who is a resident DJ here on The Beat Chicago.
Each member of the Hot Mix 5 have their own honorary street sign in Chicago to show respect to the contribution to the music world and DJ community. You can find Kenny’s sign in Logan Square.
