I Wanna Be A Cowboy – Boys Don’t Cry (1986)
I Wanna Be A Cowboy by Boys Don’t Cry is just one of the many great songs you’d hear on The Beat Chicago.
There’s enough stations playing rock n’ roll classics and the same 80’s songs from Bon Jovi, Journey, John Cougar, Elton John all day long and that’s all cool but, when you want something completely different? When you want everything from Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Spinners to Stevie B, C+C Music Factory classic 80’s dance hits and more of the music that keeps you movin? we’re it.
See, we’re all about the classics too…. Classic R&B and dance of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, freestyle and more. For us, it’s not about how old a song is, it’s about how good it is and this is as good as it gets.
This was one of those one-hit-wonder groups that, as a group had one hit but were players in the music biz then and some still are today.
Created in 1983, the band got its name from a 10cc song not The Cure’s song of the same name.
Iconic DJ Paul Oakenfold was a talent scout back then for NYC’s Profile records in London and discovered the group. They signed to Profile here in the States but Legacy retained the rights to the band’s UK releases. Mercury Records won the bidding for Canada and Intercord Tonträger GmbH handled their releases in Germany.
The was released in 1986 and hit No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 13 on the Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales chart in 1986–1987 The song was a top 10 hit in Australia and South Africa. The video, filmed on-location in Hampstead Heath, featured a cameo appearance by the late Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead. The video was in power rotation back then on MTV as well.
