Harlem Nights starring Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, Redd Foxx, Della Reese and more from 1989 on today’s #laughbreak

Eddie Murphy, in addition to starring as Quick, the son of 1930s Harlem gambling-house proprietor Sugar Ray (Richard Pryor), also wrote and directed the film.

The plotline details the combined efforts of Quick and Sugar Ray to prevent white gangster Bugsy Calhoune (Michael Lerner) from muscling in on their operation. The supporting players include Redd Foxx, Danny Aiello and Jasmine Guy.

The movie was budgeted at 30 million dollars and did over 90 million dollars at the box office

The cast was a who’s who of the day with a bunch of up n’ comers for the 90’s including Desi Arnez Hines II as young Quick, Danny Aiello as Phil Cantone, Della Reese as Madame Vera Walker, Berlinda Tolbert as Annie
Stan Shaw as Jack Jenkins, Arsenio Hall as Reggie, Thomas Mikal Ford as Tommy Smalls, Miguel A. Nunez Jr. as Man with Broken Nose, Charlie Murphy as Jimmy, Robin Harris as Romeo, Uncle Ray Murphy as Willie and a young
Michael Buffer as the Ring Announcer.
