Evelyn Thomas – High Energy (1984)
Evelyn Thomas had this club hit back in 1984.
This is just one of the many great songs you’d hear on The Beat Chicago. This was one of those you’d hear in the mix all the time courtesy of the Hot Mix 5 on WBMX and other mix show DJs here in Chicago.
There’s enough stations playing rock n’ roll classics and the same 80’s songs from Bon Jovi, Journey, John Cougar, Elton John all day long and that’s all cool but, when you want something completely different? When you want everything from Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Spinners to Stevie B, C+C Music Factory and more of the music that keeps you movin? We’re it.
See, we’re all about the classics too… Classic R&B and dance of the ’60s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, freestyle and more. For us, it’s not about how old a song is, it’s about how good it is and this is as good as it gets.
From Chicago, Evelyn started her career-long before this hit.
Thomas recorded and performed in disco, jazz, and gospel music styles for a decade before this hit.
Discovered by British producer Ian Levine, who was in the US in 1975 scouting for gospel and soul singers he could promote in the UK, the two recorded several tracks which resulted in a contract with 20th Century Records.
She’d get a hit with her first single in 1976, in the UK with the single Weak Spot. More would follow however, High Energy would be the biggest hit of her career.
