Growing up in the Chicago area, we all had our favorite places that no longer exist. Cock Robin is one of those places.
From their Square-scooped ice cream, Steak Burgers, Onion Rings and French Fries sitting under those orange heat lamps, Silver Star Sodas, Top Hat Sundaes, and “One in a Million” Malts & Shakes., there was nothing else like it.
What started out as Prince Castle in the late 1920s would grow into one of the largest chains in the Midwest by the ’60s.
Stores in our local area could be found in Glen Ellyn, Elmhurst, Naperville, Wheaton, Downers Grove, Brookfield, Lombard, Skokie, Melrose Park, Berwyn, River Grove and more.
Learn more about this iconic business from days gone by below courtesy of a feature produced about it and featured on Naperville’s NCTV17 years ago.
The last Cock Robin, in Brookfield, closed for good in 2007.
