Cher – Take Me Home (1979)

This is just one of the many great songs you’d hear on The Beat Chicago including our Sunday Night Fever programming where we feature classic disco, soul and dance from 7PM – 10PM.

There’s enough stations playing rock n’ roll classics and the same 80’s songs from Bon Jovi, Journey, John Cougar, Elton John all day long and that’s all cool but, when you want something completely different?  When you want everything from Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Spinners to Stevie B, C+C Music Factory and more of the music that keeps you movin?  We’re it.

See, we’re all about the classics too…. Classic R&B and dance of the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, freestyle and more.  For us, it’s not about how old a song is, it’s about how good it is and this is as good as it gets.

When you think of disco, if you’re a true disco fan, and I mean more than just the ‘white wedding music”, this song was played at every disco from L.A. to NYC and everywhere in between.

Cher’s massive 1979 hit “Take Me Home” is one of our favorites from the era.

Taken from her 15th studio album, like most stars back then, getting in on the disco bandwagon seemed like the thing to do and Cher? She did one helluva job. And yes, at the end of the video, Elliott Gould makes a quick dancing appearance.

The song charted well around the world, peaking at number eight on Billboard’s Hot 100 Pop Chart making it Cher’s first top 10 single since 1974’s “Dark Lady”. The song was also certified gold by the RIAA here in the States

In 2001, English singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor covered the song for her debut studio album Read My Lips.
