Call Me – Skyy (1981)
Call Me by Skyy was a follow-up to their hit a year earlier titled “Skyzoo” which was on their second album titled “Skyway.”
There’s enough stations playing rock n’ roll classics and the same 80’s songs from Bon Jovi, Journey, John Cougar, Elton John all day long and that’s all cool but, when you want something completely different? When you want everything from Marvin Gaye, Earth, Wind & Fire, The Spinners to Stevie B, C+C Music Factory and more of the music that keeps you movin? We’re it.
See, we’re all about the classics too… Classic R&B and dance of the ’60s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, freestyle and more. For us, it’s not about how old a song is, it’s about how good it is and this is as good as it gets.
It’s 1981, disco has been declared dead thanks to a bunch of people blowing up records here in Chicago. Pointless of course but anyway…. dance music was still alive and well.
Whenever you see the Salsoul label, you know it’s gonna be a great song. Known for great disco and dance classics, Call Me by Skyy kept the tradition going.
Skyy was from Brooklyn and yes, they were a band. Long ago, before untalented clowns playing with their computers making ‘beats’ and mumbling over those beats, there were great R&B bands.
The song hit #1 on the Hot Black Singles chart, #3 on the Billboard Dance charts and number 26 on Billboard’s Pop Chart. Their follow-up single was “Let’s Celebrate” which was a hit in the clubs but missed the pop charts.
