The TV show was based on cartoonist Charles Addams cartoon characters that appeared in the New Yorker starting way back in 1938. The most famous of all the TV versions of these characters ran from on ABC from 1964 – 1966 with 64 episodes. John Astin starred as the wealthy head of the family “Gomez” with Carolyn Jones starring as his wife “Morticia.”
