Every Thursday we feature a classic movie [or amazing clips from them] from back in the day for you to watch at work, on the way to work, on the way home from work or on your day off to watch and share.
Today’s feature takes you back to 1977 for one of those classic lost movies – OH GOD!
Imagine working in a grocery store, looking up in the mirror and some guy claiming to be GOD says “hey dude, need your help.”
This classic movie features so many great stars including the late John Denver, Terri Garr, a very young Paul Sorvino playing a Southern Baptist minister and more faces that you’ll be saying “I remember that person.” Even Dinah Shore makes an appearance as herself in the movie.
Directed by Carl Reiner, the movie grossed over 50 million dollars. The success of the movie inspired two sequels, Oh, God! Book II (1980) and Oh, God! You Devil (1984), both of which featured Burns reprising his role, but with no other recurring characters from the original story.
Larry Gelbart’s screenplay received an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay and a Saturn Award nod for Best Writing. The screenplay also won the Writers Guild award for Best Comedy Adapted from Another Medium.
Oh, God! was also awarded two Saturn Awards for Best Fantasy Film and Best Actor for George Burns. It received an additional nomination for Carl Reiner’s direction.
One our our favorite movies of the 70’s, it oozes 70’s! From the cars to the home decor, hair styles, clothes, the stores.
What’s even more amazing is that we see how possible it was to live without computers, cell phone or letting everyone know everything we’re doing every single minute of our lives on social networking.
For all time, this is up there with one of our favorite movies and it’s definitely… OLD SCHOOL!
