Each Thursday we feature a classic movie, movie clips or feature that takes you back in time, just like this movie.
On the website, we serve up tons of great content including movies, TV shows, music videos and our live stream.
Released in 2006, filmed in 2005, this is one of those movies that should scare you as you laugh at it. Not as depressing as The Twilight Zone’s “The Obsolete Man” starring Burgess Meredith but a possible future that we’d hope never materializes.
While this movie is set 500 years into the future, we may have arrived a bit early.
The story centers around a military experiment gone wrong. Luke Wilson and Maya Rudolph come from two completely different walks of life. They’re put into this program. The top-secret program goes awry when the military commander in charge of it is arrested. The two are forgotten and wake up 500 years later to a run by morons. Scary to think that some of these characters actually exist already within our country and government.
Why did you miss this movie? Because the distributor screwed up, that’s why. It’s hilarious and scary at the same time.
A product of Mike Judge (Beavis and Butthead) and writer Ethan Cohen, the movie grossed less than half a million at the box office thank to the distributor screw up and lack of screening. It was released in limited markets including Chicago, L.A and a few others.
When it was released on DVD, that’s when it popped doing over 9 million dollars in rentals.
