When you talk mob movies, and I mean Mafia types, not the government (many would say that’s ‘organized crime’ of the highest order) 1990’s Goodfellas is up there with the best of them. There’s The Godfather, Casino, Pope Of Greenwich Village, Donnie Brasco, A Bronx Tale, Chicago Overcoat and others, but for my dough, this is tops.
The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director, with Pesci winning for Best Supporting Actor. The film won five awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, including Best Film and Best Director.
In 2000, the movie was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress.
The movie was budgeted 25 million dollars and did over 46 million at the box office.
